Get the kick out of traffic!

Who doesn't like to travel ? But driving to work and back each day in the rush hours in heavy bumper to bumper traffic is on no-one's wishlist (for now, let's call it travel). It makes a beamer feel like a jalopy to say the least and it can <emphasize>dramatically</emphasize> shorten your patience and if you're exhausted from work or working late it totally sucks. It can especially be nasty if the weather's not your best friend that day. I think I wont mind driving all of half a day if there's no traffic(ok that's not my realistic limit, just saying). Thanks to my frequent job burnouts, I am never really sticking to one place, ever!. I start looking for a  more 'interesting' job just the day after I set my foot in a new apartment that I lease for at least a year and then we're locked in it for that long. So this means travel !

When your commute is generally more than from your bedroom down the hall to your laptop, and you cant escape the traffic, what do you do? You can crib about it all you want, it will still remain your own problem to deal with or just suck it up and accept that it is NOT going to be just trees, farms,no real traffic and miles of smooth drive to work.Time to rev up on the way there and time to de-stress on the way back. Stay positive, when and where else can you enjoy the alone time, the radio, the music, talking to yourself without having anyone thinking you eerie or creepy even; smile to fellow drivers, who knows it might just make their day better and in turn do you the same favor. Don't jump lanes abruptly in frustration or sneak in w'out signalling, not only is it rude, it also makes for bad karma, so always observe the proper passing etiquette.Be mindful of the fact that everybody else on the road is headed for something important just like you.

Pick up your morning coffee and enjoy it one sip each time you hit the brakes and voila! you've reached work wide awake, ready to take on the day!. This way you can totally warm up for the day while sitting your butt on the driver's seat. Besides, wouldn't living just 5 min away from work be drab as hell ? I once lived that close to work and every minute I did not spend 'traveling' felt like a light year, waiting for company to arrive home and having a beautiful condo and a swimming pool in front of it all to myself, not so comforting. Back then, I even went home from work to pee once. There were a handful of times I actually drove all the way through the traffic, just so I could give someone a 'ride' home.

Long commute coupled with traffic is a blessing in disguise. It gives you time to set your mood and not hate the world so much any more if you're not having the best start to your morning or have not had the best day at work. You can play a song that's right for you and you'll be an angel to the world. Cant put in words the feeling I get when I listen to my fav songs,it's almost therapeutic for me.I sing along, not minding the traffic because it's not so bad any more and I'm on a happy high anyway - the later I get to my destination, the longer I can enjoy the music. The perpetual hitting of brakes and occasional driving is like you're rocking to this music. These days it's become my fav outdoor activity!.

You could do other things like pray, eat breakfast, listen to some audio book or podcast, set reminders for the laundry list of things you might need to catch up on, plan for things to do on a weekend or a trip or what have you. OK, don't try things like meditation or texting on the phone or answering emails while driving because I said you could do the kinda things that you like to do but never manage to get on your calendar. Always be watchful and aware of the traffic and then you're not putting everyone on the road at risk and keeping the insurance rates low. So use the drive to work to absorb your stress away and travel to work will never be 'too far'. The once so annoying to-ing and fro-ing between work and home will be beautiful as it never was and resting your head on your old, familiar pillow will never be so comforting if you haven't had a busy day and come home tired.
